Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 various competitions.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His retrieving play style and regular reactions on court had led observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five games to go ahead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, striving for his first professional victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

The opponent rescued four early break points in a tight third set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
